ResumoThe use of the digital computer for on-line data acquisition and analysis is now widespread in research laboratories. It is, however, still not common to use this same computer for the control of experiments and the real-time display of data. In many situations, the computer system is programmed to perform a specific real-time task and the effort required to develop software for the execution of other functions is often time consuming and costly. On the other hand, the variety of work which comes into a research laboratory demands a versatile data acquisition, experiment control and data analysis capability, which only a computer can provide. The software system which is described here was designed and developed with this fact in mind.
