Shewanella putrefaciens es un patógeno, bacteria, bacilo gramnegativo, no fermentador y anaerobio facultativo oxidasa positiva. De presencia rara y poco común en humanos, que habita naturalmente en ambientes marinos y en algunas especies de peces de agua dulce. Presenta un mecanismo fisiopatológico poco claro, productor de un gran espectro de infecciones oportunistas graves en piel, tejidos blandos y órganos diana, de características y evolución variables. Su transmisión se ha relacionado mediante el contacto con el medio marino y hábitat tropicales. Actualmente, su tratamiento no está protocolizado, se basa en la susceptibilidad antimicrobiana. Finalmente, en este artículo se describe la evolución y los desenlaces clínicos de una paciente femenina, quien padece y muere a causa de un shock séptico por este microorganismo. Shewanella putrefaciens, is a pathogen, bacterium, gram-negative, non-fermenting bacillus and optional anaerobic: positive oxidase. Of rare and uncommon presence in humans, it naturally inhabits marine environments and some species of freshwater fish. It presents an unclear pathophysiological mechanism, which produces a wide spectrum of serious opportunistic infections in the skin, soft tissues and target organs with a characteristic and variable evolution. Its transmission has been related through contact with the marine environment and tropical habitats. Currently, its treatment is not protocolized, it is based on antimicrobial susceptibility. Finally, this article describes the evolution and clinical results of a patient who suffers and dies from septic shock of this microorganism.
