Resumo

Control of the whi tefly, Bemi sia t a baci (Gennadius, 1889) in tomate cultivars of determined growth to a v oid vírus diseasesThe effect of sorghum cultivated in different band widths in tomato plantations (several cultivars) in the increase of beneficial arthropod populations and in the reduction of Bemi s ia t abaci and Golden Mosaic Virus occurren ce was studied in a field trial in Jaboticabal (São Paulo State).Several i n sec ticides were tested with the sarne purposes in a second tri al~ In a third trial , the most effective sorghum band , the best tomato cultivar, and the most efficient insecticides were associated .Because of the data of B .tabaci control , effect on arthropod predators, and tomato yeld, the cultivar 'Rio Grande' planted with a 20 m-wide band of grain sorghum around the crop and protected by applications of thiodicarb, carbaryl or aldicarb at 1.00; 0 , 80; 3.00 kg AI/ha , respectively, was the most adequate strategy for integrated control of the mentioned pest .
