Resumo

Abundance and complex of parasitoids of P ZuteZZa xy lo st e ZZa (Linnaeus , 175 8) (Lepidoptera : Plutellidae) in Brassica ole r acea L.var.aeephala D.C .The abundance of the larval a nd pupal stages of the diamond-back moth Plute l la xylo stell,a (Linnaeus , 17 5 8) was e stimated in a kale crop in 1980/8 1 .Samples were take n eve:ry third day ; the sampling unit was the leaf. The sampling universe was 500 plants of ,ra s~ica ole r aee a L .var. a cep hala D. C. The experimental a rea was sited at the "Estação Experimental Fitotécnica de Viamão", Águas Claras District , Viamão County , RS .Morta lity of the larval and pupal stages due to p arasitoids was estimated i n 1980 /81 along with the estimation of abundan ce o f the host .ln 1981/82 mortality was estimated indepen= dent of the abundance of the host and only the two last larval stages of P. xylos tella were considered .The complex of parasitoids consisted of three main species: the eulophid Tetrasti chus s o k olowskii Kurdjmov , 19 1 2, the braconid Apant e l es piceot r i eho s u s Blanchard, 1943 and the chalcid S pilo chal ei s sp.The occurrence of both P. x y lo ste lla and its parasitoids was restricted to a short period of the year (December-Februa ry).The density of P. xylostella was low throughout the sam= pling period .The scarcity in numbe rs might be attributed, at least in part, to the inadequate combined effect on fecundity of photoperiod and temperature.T. sokolowskii was the main parasitoid in both seasons.Thi s is the first recora of this species for South Arnerica.
