History of Education Research in Brazil

The present study discusses how protectionist actions to cultural heritage occurred in Brazil Republic since its establishment until the promulgation of the 1988 Federal Constitution. For thus, we addressed the types of government that were settled in Brazil during this period. The analysis revolves about the challenge to create a popular imaginary of Republic using national republican elements that materialized by means of Arts, symbology and cultural actions of a government oriented to a select group. At last, we verify the crescent valuation of culture and cultural heritage with its clear strengthening in the articles 215 and 216 of Federal Constitution in 1988. In this study, we intend to analyze how was weaved the cultural and heritage fabric that was amounted since the proclamation of the Republic, in 1889, until the promulgation of the 1988 Federal Constitution.
