Uma mulher no campo de batalha: Pentesileia em Ephemeris belli Troiani, de Díctis Cretense

ResumoRESUMO: Neste artigo, examina-se a caracterizacao de Pentesileia em Ephemeris belli Troiani , romance anonimo do seculo IV d. C., no que tange a tensao entre generos feminino e masculino. Procura-se demonstrar que o narrador da obra apresenta uma abordagem moralizante e uma caracterizacao do genero feminino como destrutivo e ameacador. No caso de Pentesileia, observa-se que essa ameaca se torna ainda maior por razao de ela adentrar um espaco limitado a homens: o campo de batalha. Para tanto, coteja-se a personagem no romance com outras caracterizacoes das amazonas na tradicao e com a representacao do elemento feminino em Ephemeri s. Conclui-se que a morte atroz de Pentesileia descrita na narrativa funciona como punicao por sua ousadia ao ocupar e exercer funcao prioritariamente masculina. ABSTRACT: In this article, we examine the characterization of Penthesilea in Ephemeris belli Troiani , an anonymous novel from the 4th century AD, regarding the tension between male and female genders. We intend to demonstrate that the narrator presents a moralizing approach and a characterization of the feminine gender as destructive and threatening and, in the case of Penthesilea, this threat becomes even greater because she enters a space limited to men: the battlefield. To that end, we compare Penthesilea and the representation of the female element in Ephemeris with other characterizations of the Amazons in the ancient tradition. We conclude that the Penthesileia’s atrocious death described in the narrative is a punishment for her daring to occupy and exercise an exclusive male role.
