ResumoPossible genetic factors that predispose to peptic ulceration, more particularly duodenal ulcer, are being slowly delineated. The male subject of lean build, group O, and who is a non-secretor with a positive family history especially of affected females would seem particularly at risk. Apart from leading to a basic understanding of ulcerogenesis, genetic studies, by defining the hereditary factors, can locate those individuals with greater susceptibility. This is worthwhile since such patients may fare best with different forms of treatment (Kay, 1962) or with special protection from environmental factors.
