After presenting a definition of parias and an overview of the phenomenon during the eleventh century, we went on analyzing the specific payments made by Badajoz, using a text by Ibn Idari that recounts a meeting between al-Muzaffar from Badajoz and Fernando I of Castilla near Santarem and other sources. Finally, we analyze how the money that Castilla captured as parias during the 11th century could have been invested.
