Resumo

This chapter provides a detailed description of geotourist routes of Georgia. Main geotourist routes of Georgia are: 1. Tbilisi-Pasanauri-Kazbegi (along the Georgian Miliraty Road), 2. Tbilisi-Zugdidi-Mestia-Ushguli and 3. Tbilisi-Khashuri-Borjomi-Vardzia. First route crosses Paleogene sedimentary and volcanic deposts of the eastern termination of the Adjara-Trialeti folded zone, weekly folded Neogene, Paleogene deposits of the Kura intermountain depression and intensive folded Mesozoic and Cenozoic deposits and tectonic nappes of the Fold System of the Greater Caucasus. Second route crosses Neogene, Paleogene deposits of the Kura intermountain depression, pre-Alpine metamorphic rocks of the Dzirula massif and intensive folded Cenozoic, Mesozoic and weekly metamorphosed Paleozoic rocks of the Greater Caucasus. Third route crosses Paleogene sedimentary and submarine volcanic rocks of central part of the Adjara-Trialeti folded zone, Upper Miocene and Lower Pliocene continental deposits and continental volcanic rocks of the Artvin-Bolnisi zone.
