Resumo

This paper investigates the reproduction of traditional adobes, focusing on the effect of fibre type and quantity. Several adobes were produced in the laboratory using 30% to 70% by volume sawdust or straw. Their physico-mechanical properties were compared with values published in the international literature and normative documents. Sawdust adobes present improved mechanical properties, while straw adobes have lower sorptivity. The results enrich the database of information regarding adobe bricks and highlight the importance of site- and use-specific adobe production. They also contribute towards the understanding of the effect of production methodology on the properties of adobes.
