ResumoCommunication between all parts of the world is unthinkable without photonics today. Yet until the middle of the nineteenth century, the stagecoach was still the fastest means of transporting messages. Then the Morse telegraph was finally invented. It works according to the same ingenious principle on which the internet is based: with the signals 0 and 1. The only difference is that these signals are now sent with light instead of electricity. This makes them faster.
