“Hoja” Chan Ahk: El descubrimiento de la tumba de un rey del Clásico Temprano en el Palacio Real de El Perú-Waka’, Guatemala

espanolEn junio de 2017, investigadores del Proyecto Arqueologico Waka’ que desarrollan actividades de investigacion en el sitio El Peru, ubicado en el Parque Nacional Laguna del Tigre, en la Reserva de Biosfera Maya de Guatemala descubrieron, despues de tres anos de excavaciones en la Acropolis y Palacio Real del sitio, la tumba real de un personaje masculino que falleciera en la primera mitad del siglo IV despues de Cristo. Este rey, el mas antiguo hasta ahora descubierto en el occidente de Peten, revelo entre otras cosas, que Waka’ era un centro urbano complejo desde epocas tempranas, y que hubo una fuerte relacion entre los reyes del siglo VIII y posteriores con este personaje al que veneraron quinientos anos despues de su muerte. EnglishIn June 2017, researchers from the Waka’ Archaeological Project, who carry out research activities at the El Peru-Waka’ site, located in the Laguna del Tigre National Park, in the Maya Biosphere Reserve of Guatemala, discovered after three years of excavations in the Palace Acropolis and the Royal Palace of the site, the royal tomb of a man who died in the middle of the 4th century AD. This is the oldest king discovered up to now in the west of Peten, and reveals among other things, that Waka’ was a complex urban center from earliest times, and the existence of a strong relationship that the kings of the eighth century and later had with this ancient king whom they revered almost 500 years after his death.
