BACKGROUND: In this study, we aimed to discuss the cases of pilomatrixoma among rare skin tumors in adults with the review of the literature.METHODS: We retrospectively evaluated the results of cases which were diagnosed with pilomatrixoma upon pathological evaluation of the skin lesions excised in the general surgery clinic between January 2015 and December 2018 in Seyhan State Hospital.RESULTS: The mean age of the patients was 30.68 years, and the mean tumor size was 1.8±66 cm (min: 1.2 max: 2.8). Fifty percent of the tumors were in the head and neck region, whereas 31.25% was in the upper and lower extremities and 18.75% was in the trunk.CONCLUSIONS: Although pilomatrixoma is usually seen in individuals under 20 years of age, it is also likely to be found in adults. Therefore, pilomatrixoma should be taken into consideration in case of excision of any skin or subcutaneous lesions in the body. Malignancy should be ruled out and it should be kept in mind that recurrence may rarely occur.
