RESUMO: O convivio familiar e social exerce relevante influencia na formacao do EU, sendo o contato com o OUTRO essencial para a constituicao do ser e a visao de si mesmo. Assim, seriam a nossa memoria e o nosso comportamento exclusivamente nossos? Ou expressariam a influencia do meio ao qual pertencemos? O presente artigo se propoe a analisar o efeito da memoria coletiva nas lembrancas particulares e sua atuacao na formacao do individuo no romance Ciranda de pedra (1954), de Lygia Fagundes Telles. A protagonista Virginia, uma jovem em busca de respostas, aceitacao e de si mesma, tenta por duas vezes fazer parte do grupo fechado ao qual pertencem suas duas irmas Bruna e Otavia, os vizinhos Leticia e Conrado e o amigo deles Afonso. Mas ao final de sua trajetoria rumo ao autoconhecimento, ela se vera diante da escolha entre a integracao social ou a aceitacao e integracao do EU. PALAVRAS-CHAVE: Memoria. Sociedade. Formacao. ABSTRACT: Social and family living exert a considerable influence on the development of the ego, the contact with the other being essential for the human constitution and the vision of oneself. So would our memory and our behaviour be exclusively ours? Or would they express the influence of the environment we belong to? This article proposes to analyse the effect of the collective memory in private memories and its performance in the particular individual development in the novel Ciranda de pedra (The Marble Dance, 1954) by Lygia Fagundes Telles. The protagonist Virginia, a young girl looking for answers, the acceptance of herself, tries twice to join the closed group constituted by her sisters Bruna and Otavia, their neighbors Leticia and Conrado and their friend Afonso. But she sees herself, at the end of her journey toward self- understanding, against the choice between the social integration and the acceptance and integration of herself. KEYWORDS: Memory. Society.
