Resumo

Seminal characteristics of thirty-five dourado (Salminus maxillosus) fish were investigated under pre- and post-hormonal induction by extract of carp pituitary. The progressive motility was increased from 67.31% up to 76.31% after the hormonal treatment, unlike the spermatic vigor which had similar performance under both conditions. The spermatozoa concentration was reduced from 15.92 x 109, before the hormonal induction, to 13.13 x 109 spermatozoa/mL (P<0.05) after the hormonal induction. The percentage of normal spermatozoa in pre-hormonal induction was 56.74% and the estimate in post-hormonal induction was 48.01%: a significant reduction (P<0.05). No significant differences were detected in the percentage of primary pathologies, but in the secondary ones the estimate of 13.3% in pre-hormonal induction was increased (P<0.05) up to 19.02% in post-hormonal induction. Bent tail (primary) and shoe hook tail (secondary) were the most frequent morphological pathologies.
