Resumo

Recently an interesting inscription has been found in Tongeren (Belgium) which document the municipal rank of the Cuitas Tungrorum. In this study we try to make a brief status quaestionis about romanisation and urbanisation in Germania inferior, esclusive the two coloniae. Evidence establish the existence of probably 4 cuitates (Tungri, Bataui, Canninefates, Frisiauones) in Julio-Claudian times. Three of them obtain the statute of Latin municipium by Pius or Marcus Aurelius. Considering also their magistrates, elites, town development and integration, it seems that this province had a rather classical municipalisation process and that the «batavian model» which put forth a «germanic resistance» to Roman culture is not prooved.
