Resumo

This Study was undertaken to assess the butterfly area of “Deuli Matha”, Kakatpur, puri (Latitude 19.9898* N; Longitude 86.1969*E). This place is adjacent to historical site of Mangala mandir temple, kakatpur expanding up to 1 to 2 km, has enormous number of organisms and show a great area specifically in phylum Arthropods and class Insecta. From available data it was observed that, this beautiful place has 22 number of species belonging to order Lepidoptera family Nymphalidae with eight species, Hesperiidae with three species, Pieridae with seven species, Papillionidae with three species and Lycaenidae with one species were documented. To assess the area statistically Simpson's diversity index was employed.
