Resumo

The International Liaison Committee on Resuscitation (ILCOR) World Restart a Heart (WRAH) initiative has become an outstanding success over the last three years. The messaging about the importance of cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) has been spread to more than 200 million people in over 194 countries during this time. In 2020, established activities such as mass training events were not possible due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Therefore, participants had to become creative to keep the campaign alive. "All citizens of the world can save a life". This original mission statement for WRAH continues to be the theme of the global initiative – to increase awareness and therefore the rates of bystander CPR for victims of cardiac arrest.1.Böttiger B.W. Over 675,000 people were trained in resuscitation and 12.7 million were reached via social media.3.Böttiger B.W. Lockey A. At least 5.4 million people were trained in resuscitation worldwide.4.Böttiger B.W. Lockey A. The motto was "Your two hands can save a life", but mass resuscitation events were not possible in many countries. Thus, our initiative had to become creative and implement new strategies for success. One of the most successful ideas for 2020 was the "#MySongCanSaveLives" campaign. Famous national and international artists whose songs align with the appropriate rate for resuscitation (100–120 BPM) were contacted. They were invited to post the song on social media platforms with the #MySongCanSaveLives hashtag, and thus spread the message to all their followers on and around 16 October 2020. Many world-famous artists such as the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra, David Garret, and Andrew Lloyd Webber participated. In addition, a new song was composed for the occasion by Greg Page to teach children how to do CPR (Keep the Beat Going).5.Greg Page. Keep the beat going, 2020. (Accessed 07 July 2021, at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_kvli78HlRk).Google Scholar Other successful ideas included activities that were easy to do at home. These included instructions for self-made resuscitation manikins, photo and video competitions, and digital resuscitation training. Celebrity videos were created, and livestream online symposiums were organized to teach and promote bystander CPR. Virtual reality apps for learning CPR and blended learning approaches were promoted in several countries and, a WRAH postage stamp was released in India. All seven constituent councils of ILCOR participated and several other key partners (for the full list, see www.ilcor.org/wrah, Table 1). As a result, WRAH 2020 was a success despite the pandemic. The awareness campaign for resuscitation was kept alive and will ultimately help save hundreds of thousands of lives worldwide.Table 1Internationality of the WRAH-Working group – Countries, Institutions and names including the World Restart a Heart Logo.CountryNameInstitutionBelgiumKoenraad MonsieursAntwerp University Hospital and University of AntwerpBelgiumHeleen Van GrootvenEuropean Resuscitation CouncilBrazilNaomi Kondo NakagawaFaculdade de Medicina da Universidade de São PauloBrazilMaria José Carvalho CarmonaFaculdade de Medicina da Universidade de São PauloCanadaKrista O'ShaughnessyHeart & StrokeCyprusMarios GeorgiouAmerican Medical CenterFrancePascal CassanInternational Federation of Red Cross and Red CrescentFranceSalomé BoucifIFRC Global first aid reference centreGermanyBernd W.
