
Associação entre estado nutricional e adesão a dietas da moda de frequentadores de academias de ginástica

ResumoIntroduction: the search for a slim and defined body, following standards imposed by society, makes many people are adept at fad diets, restrictive and unhealthy dietary models. Objective: aimed to evaluate the association between nutritional status and membership of fad diets goers of Palmitinho-RS academies. This is a cross-sectional, quantitative, descriptive, and analytical study. A questionnaire was applied, with objective questions in two academies. The study included people aged between 18 and 50 years old, of both sexes, totaling 60 participants. Weight and height were measured to calculate Body Mass Index and waist circumference. Results and discussion: of the 60 participants, 12 (20%) underwent fad diets, the most cited being: intermittent fasting (83%) and low carb and atkins diet (17%). Comparing the BMI values of participants who follow fad diets with those who do not, obesity was higher for the group that followed fad diets. The association between WC values showed that the majority (66.6%) of those who adhere to fad diets are at risk for the development of diseases associated with obesity. Conclusion: further studies are needed to assess the long-term organic repercussions of fad diets.
