ResumoThis research focused on reviewing the articles that evaluated cephalometrically the position of the hyoid bone, lingual position and the dimension of the pharyngeal airway according to skeletal malocclusion, in order to determine if there is a relationship between these structures. Method: Publications were identified in the following databases: PubMed, Virtual Health Library (VHL), Scielo and Scopus. Key words: Hyoid bone, Tongue, Airway, Malocclusion. Articles were screened by title, abstract and full text, written in English and Spanish. Results: 75 articles were found, 30 were eliminated for not having a direct relation with the topic. Finally, 45 articles were selected. It is concluded that there is still no absolute consensus on the relationship between the position of the hyoid bone, the tongue and the dimension of the upper airway, according to skeletal malocclusion.
