Memory, violence, and history

This article analyzes the role played by the historian David Pena (1862-1930) through the magazine Atlantida (1911-1914), in the political situation that extends between the celebrations of the Centennial of May and the sanction of the electoral law of 1912.Lawyer, journalist, university professor, author of works of historical and literary character, and close to circles of conservative power, David Pena conceived and launched an editorial project in the heat of the cultural and political climate generated towards the Centennial era. Through it, he was committed to the new political reality, by helping to disseminate from the magazine the reformist ideas of President Roque Saenz Pena.The study of this case, which is based in an extensive documentary corpus composed of the complete collection of Atlantida and the personal archive of David Pena, seeks to illustrate some of the ways in which historians have been involved throughout Argentine history in the alternatives of political power and in State policies.
