ResumoRomanian local administrations are rarely using participatory budgeting, although it is one of the best tools to enhance civic participation, to promote good governance, and to improve transparency in public administration. In Romania, public participation processes appeared more than two decades ago and have had a significant impact, especially in cities with large academic communities (Cluj-Napoca, Timișoara, and Brașov). Unfortunately, due to the situation generated by the COVID-19 pandemic, most of the participatory budgeting processes are suspended, but there are some that have been digitalised and implemented entirely online. However, there are many challenges to face, obstacles to overcome, but the process is alive, successful, and irreversible.
