Resumo

This paper analyzes the socioeconomic development of the municipalities at Jequitinhonha-Mucuri region in Brazil. The methodological procedure consisted of the organization of Population data, Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and the FIRJAN Municipal Development Index (FMDI). Subsequently, the Centrality (CI) and Disparity (DI) indexes were estimated. The results demonstrated the region's low economic representativeness in relation to Brazil. Considering the CI, the municipalities of Mucuri (BA), Eunapolis (BA), Porto Seguro (BA), Teofilo Otoni (MG), Itapebi (BA), Sao Mateus (ES) and Teixeira de Freitas (BA) are able to advance as economic hubs. In the disparity index, the municipalities of Jaguare (ES); Mountain (ES); Sao Mateus (ES); and Diamantina (MG) are the ones that maintained or expanded the level of sectorial services, improving municipal development.
