Resumo

Oral epithelial changes were studied in four patients with either pemphigus vulgaris or bullous pemphigoid. Multiple diagnostic methods, including indirect immunofluorescent study, were employed. Although all four patients had oral desquamative gingivitis, these clinical manifestations should be viewed with suspicion. Desquamative gingivitis most probably is a nonspecific gingival disorder seen in a wide variety of systemic conditions.
