Resumo

This article introduces the May Events Archive at the library of Simon Fraser University and explores its contents in terms of the role of the idea of self-management in Paris in 1968. The documents in the archive show that the May Events was a politically conscious movement for democratic socialism, contrary to widespread condemnation by conservative intellectuals who argue that students and workers had no positive goals in 1968 but merely engaged in self-indulgent complaint. The article also points out the important role of the middle strata of employees and professionals in the May Events.
