ResumoBetween 1671 and 1673, while the Netherlands are threatened, then invaded by France, Johan De Witt, Leader of the United Provinces, and Johannes Hudde, burgomaster of Amsterdam, build a method for calculating life annuities, in order to resolve the Dutch State Finances crisis. Then, after De Witt's assassination, the second makes paradoxically a rate for life annuities for which no one could find a link with this method. The purpose of this article is to show that this rate was really built with the method that the two men focused, integrating data collected by Hudde and published by C. Huygens, but using an unusual actuarial rate and making several mistakes that we strived to piece together.
