Resumo

Este texto se propoe a discutir a relacao entre cinema e escola no Brasil, destacando as iniciativas efetuadas nos anos 20 e 30 para estimular a producao de filmes educativos e organizar a utilizacao do cinema nas escolas. As iniciativas do governo federal resultaram na criacao do Instituto Nacional do Cinema Educativo - INCE- em janeiro de 1937, sob a direcao de Roquette Pinto. Entretanto, a suposta eficacia educativa das imagens nao resistiu aos intentos oficiais e a combinacao entre educacao de massas e propaganda oficial marcou o periodo.Abstract:This text aims at discussing the relation betWeen cinema and school in Brazil, by emphazing the measures taken in the 20's and 30'sto stimulate the production of educational films as well as their use in schools. Such governmental initiatives resulted in the set-up, in January 1937, ofthe Brazilian Educational Film Institute (INCE) under the management ofRoquette Pinto. However, the assumed educating power of rhe images was overcome by the official intents and the period was marked by rhe combination of mass education and official propaganda.Key-words: Educational cinema.
