ResumoResumen. En este trabajo se dan a conocer bivalvos provenientes de diferentes unidades de la sierra de Barreal. Se describen cinco especies, de las cuales una es nueva: Streblochondria sanjuanensis sp. nov., Nuculanella camachoi Gonzalez, Streblochondria stappenbecki(Reed), Streblochondriasp. y Streblopteriasp. A partir de las caracteristicas morfologicas identificables en cada taxon, se realizo el estudio del posible modo de vida y las correspondientes reconstrucciones hipoteticas de cada especie. Se reconocio un bivalvo de habito infaunal cavador somero y cinco epifaunales. Los bivalvos estudiados son de edad carbonifera tardia ya que la fauna de braquiopodos asociada pertenece a la Biozona de Levipustulaen la Formacion Hoyada Verde y de la Biozona de Balakhonia-Geniculiferaen las Formaciones Esquina Gris y Mono Verde Abstract. CARBONIFEROUS BIVALVES FROM THE SIERRA DE BARREAL, CALINGASTA-USPALLATA BASIN, SAN JUAN PROVINCE. Taxonomic analysis of bivalves was carried out in different sections of the Sierra de Barreal, San Juan province. As a result five species of bivalves are reconized. The new species Streblochondria sanjuanensis sp. nov. and also Nuculanella camachoi (Gonzalez), Aviculopecten barrealensis Reed, Streblochondria stappenbecki(Reed), Streblochondriasp. and Streblopteriasp. are described and figured. Bivalves are analized from a morphofunctional viewpoint mainly based on shell characters. One infaunal shallow burrower and five epifaunal bivalves are distinguished. Relationships between morphology and hypothetical life strategies are proposed. A Late Carboniferous age is suggested for the studied bivalves in view of their occurrence along with brachiopods belonging to the LevispustulaBiozone in the Hoyada Verde Formation and Balakhonia-GeniculiferaBiozone in the Esquina Gris and Mono Verde Formations.
