ResumoTincture of iodine as a potential reagent for experimentation in chemistry teaching. This study refers to the proposition of low cost experiments using tincture of iodine (alcoholic iodine solution and potassium iodide) as the main reagent. This reagent was chosen for some reasons, namely: 1-low cost; 2-availability; 3-high reactivity; 4-rapid reaction kinetics; 5-apparent colorimetric evidence of the occurrence of chemical reactions.Based on these aspects and on the literature about experimentation, six experimental scripts were developed. It is recommended that the realization of the proposed experimental activities be inserted in an investigative didactic strategy that articulates theoretical and practical aspects of chemical knowledge. It is expected that the proposed experimental activities will provide students the development of concepts, procedures and attitudes.
