ResumoThe explicit study of the grammar in Primary Education is a matter of permanent debate both among teachers and linguists. In this article we show that the explicit teaching of morphology contributes to improve the communicative competence of primary school students at least in three aspects: it boosts vocabulary acquisition; increases reading competence and improves written expression. To achieve this goal, it is essential to rethink both the contents established by educational laws and the way in which they are presented and worked on in textbooks. In this sense, this paper presents a proposal for organizing morphological contents along Primary Education.
