Resumo

This work is based on the comparison of the results excerpted from the application ofa multivariant analysis (Principal Components Analysis) on independent series of physicochemical and biological data obtained simultaneously during an annual sampling period, in the river Segre (Lerida, NE Spain).Only the two first resultant components were considered. The perccntage accounting for the accumulated variance for each series was very different: 55% for physicochemical data and 33% for biological data. However, the interpretation of the components turned out to be, respectively, homologous: for the coniponents turned out to be, respectively, homologous: for the physicochemical data the first component was the water mineralisation and the second one was the water pollution; for the biological data, the first was the longitudinal gradient of mesological characteristics and the second one was the pollution sensibility. In spite of the deducible limitations from the systematic level used for the macroinvertebrates determination and to have used the qualitative data, the benthic fauna of the river Segrc provide some useful information on the state ofthe river and their physiognomy.F-igura I .-Distribuciónde las estaciones de niuestrco establecidas a lo largo del rio Scgi-e Di\trihution ofthe símpling stations lenght wa)s to the Segre riier.
