ResumoThis article considers two biopic films about Yves Saint Laurent (1936–2008): Saint Laurent (dir. Bertrand Bonello) and Yves Saint Laurent (dir. Jalil Lespert), both released in 2014. By placing Saint Laurent and Yves Saint Laurent in dialogue and situating them within the context of the genre of the contemporary biopic, this article considers how the films take differing approaches, in content and form, to representing the life and career of Saint Laurent onscreen. Also discussed is the question of authenticity via a consideration of Pierre Bergé's involvement with and authorization of Yves Saint Laurent—as opposed to Saint Laurent.
