ResumoIn October 1965, through Institutional Act No. 2 (AI-2), the military dictatorship extinguished the political parties and multi-party system in force in the country since 1945, creating a new party system, bipartisanship, which lasted until the end of 1979, characterized by the existence of a governing party called the National Renewing Alliance (ARENA), and an opposition party, the Brazilian Democratic Movement (MDB).This article aims to analyze the process of organization and the trajectory of the ARENA in Paraná from 1965 to 1979, examining the internal power struggles, especially between Ney Braga and Paulo Pimentel, and the electoral results of the party in the state of Paraná.
