When I was old enough, I chose to trademy auburn for a purchased dyed cascadeof pert plum ringlets begging constant care. While time went infi nite, my "fitin" wishfor other color hid in shades of shame.Why did I want us to all seem the same?I've learned desire defi es its fi nish.I've gone au naturale so look away—My time has come to fl aunt my golden-grey. [End Page 147] Alice Rosenblitt Lacey alice rosenblitt lacey has a master's degree in English/creative writing from NYU and a BA in English from Yale University. She has taught for the City University of New York for the past twenty-five years. Her essay, "In Deference to Dreams Deferred" was published by Brill as Chapter 7 in Poetry across the Curriculum: New Methods of Writing Intensive Pedagogy for U.S. Community College and Undergraduate Education. Alice has also published her poetry in the anthology Celebrating Women: 20 Years of Co-Education at Yale College and in Newtown Literary, phati'tude, Long Shot, The Ledge, Pome, LaMia Ink, ABC No Rio Mag, What Happens Next? and the National Poetry Magazine of the Lower East Side. She is listed in the Poets & Writers' Directory of Writers. Her poem, "Queens Queens," was nominated for the Pushcart Prize and her one-act play, "Service," was produced at the Manhattan Repertory Theatre in Times Square. Alice was a finalist in the last selection process for the Poet Laureate of Queens. She has served as a judge for Poetry Out Loud and for the Queens Public Library Poetry Contest.
