Dyeing and Modifying Textile Fibers

The use of new materials to produce smart textiles is an engineering hot topic. These materials range from functionalized nanoparticles impregnated into the fiber matrix to special or modified polymers used in intelligent filaments, yarns, and fabrics manufacturing. Smart textiles have become a relevant and revolutionary material category in the textile industry due to the different functionalities that a textile substrate can acquire and how it can interact with its user. Due to the relevance of the theme nowadays, this review aims to present, concisely, the fundamental concepts of an intelligent textile, its categories, different applications, highlighting the principal materials used in its preparation. Additionally, our research contributions on this topic were considered.
