Resumo O tema deste artigo são as mudanças ontológicas que o uso de fantasias promove em festas populares, fundindo-se realidade e ficção. Em termos específicos, objetiva-se discutir como isso se realiza nas Cavalhadas de Pirenópolis, implicando em um misto de tradição e ruptura, que se perpetua há dois séculos. O texto baseia-se em parte de tese de doutorado defendida no ano de 2002, com bolsa do CNPq, cujas pesquisas foram desenvolvidas de 1998 a 2001 no PPGEO da Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro. Assim, revisitam-se as Cavalhadas 20 anos após o término daquela pesquisa, atualizando-se algumas informações com a ajuda de dois outros pesquisadores sobre o tema. Entrevistas realizadas àquela época foram recuperadas e outras foram feitas no corrente ano, a fim de cumprir tal intento. Nas conclusões, acentuam-se o papel da festa e das fantasias na composição da identidade pirenopolina. Palavras-chaves: Festa Popular. Fantasia. Mouros e Cristãos. Abstract The theme of this article is the ontological changes that the use of costumes promotes in popular festivals, merging reality and fiction. In specific terms, it aims to discuss how this happens in the “Cavalhadas” of Pirenópolis, implying a mixture of tradition and rupture that has been perpetuated for two centuries. The text is based on part of a doctoral thesis defended in 2002, with a CNPq grant, whose research was developed from 1998 to 2001 PPGEO at PPGEO/Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro. Thus, the “Cavalhadas” are revisited 20 years after the end of that research, updating some information with the help of two other researchers on the subject. Interviews conducted at that time were recovered and others were made this year in order to fulfill such an intention. In the conclusions, the role of the feast and the fantasies in the composition of the “pirenopolina” identity is emphasized. Keywords: Popular Party. Fantasy. Moors and Christians.
