Resumo

It is exciting times for scientific publishing in general and for the International Endodontic Journal in particular. As the ways of disseminating information evolve, so do we. Over the past decade, scientific publishing has moved from an almost exclusively printed distribution, to include a very large digital readership. Today, the International Endodontic Journal annually receives 400 000 downloads of the online versions of its articles, and this number continues to increase. We are happy to see that the global endodontic community regards the International Endodontic Journal as a source of pertinent, high-quality content, but our further ambition is to use all possible methods to help readers keep up to date with the scientific literature. To that end, the International Endodontic Journal has recently launched a Scivee channel. The Scivee.com site hosts video presentations of scientific articles or pubcasts. Pubcasts include a number of facilities to combine video presentations with supporting slide shows and the articles themselves. They give authors an opportunity to present and introduce their articles, or delve into areas of particular interest in an easily accessible format for readers and viewers. The most recent Scivee pubcasts will be available through the IEJ homepage (http://www.scivee.tv/node/57139), but our readers are more than welcome to visit our dedicated Scivee channel directly (http://www.scivee.tv/). Furthermore, the International Endodontic Journal has recently introduced Editor's choice articles. We consider all articles published in our journal of high quality and relevance, but in the future, research of particular relevance will be highlighted in the journal homepage. Watch the Editor's choice space in our site for new content: http://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/journal/10.1111/(ISSN)1365-2591. Our large online readership facilitates very rapid and easy dissemination of the research which is published in the International Endodontic Journal. This has made it even more important that we remain professional and expedient in our peer review process, and in the publication of articles. We work closely with Wiley, our publishing partner, to deliver quick production times, and with the introduction of Accepted Articles, we are now able to publish accepted manuscripts online in a pre-typeset format but complete with referencing information within 5 days of receipt in production. Online publication in a typeset Early View version takes roughly 1 month. It is important for the scientific community that research findings are shared quickly and effectively, and we want to support authors in this enterprise. In addition, we want to make sure we provide guidance to authors on the areas they should focus on in future research projects. Over the last year we have published editorials on several key areas of endodontic research that have given a clear message for the areas of research that are innovative and likely to be published as well as highlighting those research areas and laboratory experimental models that are now deemed to be less important and/or invalid. At the same time, the editorial from Gunnar Bergenholtz and Thomas Kvist (http://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/iej.12138/abstract-totheAugust2013issue) highlighted deficiencies in endodontic research and made suggestions for areas on which researchers should focus on in the future. As 2014 dawns, I would like to thank and acknowledge the outstanding contribution during 2013 of the following: The Associate Editors: Gustavo De-Deus, Matt German, Kishor Gulabivala, Michael Hülsmann, Francesco Mannocci, Paul McCabe, Yuan-Ling Ng, Ove Peters, Matthias Zehnder; The Consultant Editors: James Gutmann, William Saunders, Paul Wesselink; and The Editorial Board: Paul Abbott, Mohammad Al-Omari, Gary Cheung, Bun San Chong, Roeland De Moor, Unni Endal, Carlos Estrela, David Figdor, José Figueiredo, Inge Fristad, Gerald Glickman, Markus Haapasalo, Tao Hu, Thomas Kvist, Paul Lambrechts, Claus Löst, Robert Love, Phil Lumley, Pierre Machtou, Takashi Okiji, Dag Ørstavik, Mutlu Özcan, Linda Peters, Christine Sedgley, Asgeir Sigurdsson, Dave Spratt, Hideaki Suda, Leo Tjäderhane, Tuomas Waltimo, Roland Weiger, John Whitworth.
