ResumoPatients may present to the operating room or interventional radiology suite with an intracranial aneurysm with or without a subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH). Optimal anesthetic management involves understanding associated physiologic complications pertaining not only cerebral autoregulation, but cardiac function, glucose metabolism, volume status, and electrolyte derangements. Intraoperative management must also take into consideration postoperative complications, in particular vasospasm. Recognition and effective treatment of vasospasm has important ramifications for the patient.
