AAFPNew resource – cat owner educational website©iStockphoto.com/© AifosThis fall, the AAFP will launch a new website designed for cat owners, catfriendly.com.This new website will aid in the move towards building a community of cat owners who recognize the importance of feline veterinary care. Veterinary professionals can add catfriendly.com to their list of client resources. Getting the word out to cat owners about the importance and value of routine preventive healthcare is a priority – and catfriendly.com is another communication outlet for this vital message.Catfriendly.com offers educational information served up in an easy-to-digest format so that cat owners can obtain reliable information in a way that is most attractive to them. From website sections on proper ‘Cat Care at Home’ to interactive components in ‘The Toy Box’, catfriendly.com seeks to engage cat owners who desire fun cat content, seek trusted feline health information, and are well informed on the importance of visiting the veterinarian routinely.‘Bring Your Cat to the Vet Day’ reaches cat owners with important messageIn honor of National Bring Your Cat to the Vet Day on August 22, the AAFP focused on expanding promotion of this event for the entire month. Resources, infographics and fun social media posts were launched throughout the month such as a pre-veterinary visit checklist for cat owners on how to prepare for the visit and an infographic advising cat owners that postponing their cat’s wellness check-ups does not pay off.Creating a variety of visually appealing resources for cat owners through social media outlets on preventive care and the value of the veterinary visit will continue to elevate the level of care for all cats.If you haven’t shared any of these resources, they can be used any time of year since the message is timeless.Conference partners spotlightWe are grateful to have many wonderful partners participating in our 2016 Annual Conference in Washington DC. The American Board of Veterinary Practitioners and the Winn Feline Foundation are long-time partners of the AAFP and help to provide new, high level information, research and education for attendees. For the second year in a row, The International Cat Association is generously securing cats for our live, hands-on Feline-Friendly Handling labs. This attention is reflected in an impressive article level metric (Altmetric) score of 92 for the content.Corresponding author Sally Perea says: ‘All of the contributors, including those of us at Mars Petcare, have been excited by this enthusiastic response. The science of aging is fascinating and, for us, this translates into very practical and meaningful applications in preventive medicine and nutrition that help us to achieve our goal of “A Better World for Pets”.’iCatCareRecognising those ‘thinking cat’International Cat Care, the parent charity of ISFM, presented four ‘Easy to Give’ and four ‘Cat Friendly’ awards at its annual awards ceremony in London on July 15.
