In society, dictated by information and globalized, discussions intensify about the influence of human beings' actions on society and the environment, and also on the ways in which these actions are felt by humanity. In this sense, we discuss the crisis of moral values ​​and the lack of ethics. The Charter of Human Rights, always quoted and celebrated, is not observed. Who is responsible for non-compliance with the human rights of every human being? Saramago states that "What is lacking is an ethical insurrection." The work is based on qualitative research and aimed to study some of the works of José Saramago, in order to identify Saramago's criticism of the lack of ethics in society. The novels Ensaio sobre a Cegueira , O Homem Duplicado e Ensaio sobre a Lucidez are studied. It seeks to reflect on the different concerns that afflict contemporary society and it is concluded, with Saramago, that every human being should ask himself what he is doing in the world and, above all, he must practice respect for the other. Na sociedade, dita da informação e globalizada, intensificam-se as discussões sobre a influência das ações dos seres humanos na sociedade e no meio ambiente e, também, as formas como esssas ações são sentidas pela humanidade. Nesse sentido, discute-se sobre a crise dos valores morais e a falta de ética. A Carta dos Direitos Humanos, sempre citada e festejada, não é observada. De quem é a responsabilide pelo não cumprimento dos direitos humanos de cada ser humano? Saramago afirma que “O que faz falta é uma insurreição ética .”. O trabalho vale-se de pesquisa qualitativa e teve por objetivo estudar algumas das obras de José Saramago, de forma a identificar a crítica de Saramago à falta de ética na sociedade. São estudados os romances Ensaio sobre a Cegueira , O Homem Duplicado e Ensaio sobre a Lucidez . Busca-se a reflexão sobre as diferentes preocupações que afligem a sociedade contemporânea e conclui-se, com Saramago, que cada ser humano deve-se perguntar sobre o que está a fazer no mundo e, principalmente, deve praticar o respeito pelo outro.
