Resumo

Significance Nevertheless, Abiy and his Eritrean counterpart, President Isaias Afewerki, appear unfazed and have sought to project a strengthening partnership. Impacts The continued presence of Eritrean troops in Ethiopia will damage Abiy’s nationalist credentials. Perceptions that the peace dividends favour Eritrea could breed popular resentment in Ethiopia. Beyond trade and infrastructure investments, Eritrea could also benefit from a potential inflow of Ethiopian tourists.
