Resumo

A survey of cervicofacial actinomycosis is presented in the light of personal experience with cases of this condition. It is emphasized that since the advent of antibiotics there has been a dramatic change in the course of this disease and the chronic fibrotic type of infection is now rarely seen in this country. Actinomycosis of the neck and face may occur as an acute infection, and routine culture of pus from acute cervicofacial infective lesions is thus desirable if these forms of the disease are to be diagnosed at an early stage. It should not be forgotten that two thirds of all cases of actinomycosis are found in the cervicofacial region.
