BENT is a graduate of the University of Alberta and took his PH D in operations research from Stanford University. He has worked with a number of organizations, including Imperial Oil, the McBee Company, and Canadian Industries Ltd. His fields of interest include appHcations of mathematics and statistics to business problems and the development of computer methods for analysis and control of business enterprises. He is presently Associate Professor of Business Analysis and Director of Computing Services at the University of Alberta.Barry HyndmanBARRY W. HYNDMAN was born in Toronto in 1941. He obtained the BA SC (Hons.) in Electrical Engineering from the University of Toronto in 1966. A former Athlone Fellow, he received the Diploma of Imperial College and the PH D in Electrical Engineering from the University of London in 1970 in the field of biomedical engineering. He is currently an Assistant Professor in the Department of Physiology and Biophysics at Dalhousie University in Halifax, where his research and teaching activities include biological control systems, simulation, and cardiovascular data processing. He has just returned from giving a series of lectures on these topics in Australia and Japan.Tapan BagchiDR. TAPAN P. BAGCHI, born in India in 1946, was the winner of the Examination Centre's Gold and Silver Medals for aggregate performance in High School in 1960. He graduated in Mechanical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur in 1967. He received an MA SC, and a PH D, both in Industrial Engineering, in 1969 and 1971 respectively from the University of Toronto. He has been keenly interested in the study of production lines, storage systems, and bulk queues and has presented papers at CORS/CIPS and the Institute of Mathematical Statistics conferences. He is currently appointed a Research Fellow in the Department of Industrial Engineering at the University of Toronto and is involved in developing numerical techniques to handle complex waiting line and inventory problems.Andrew CunninghamANDREW CUNNINGHAM is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Industrial Engineering at the University of Toronto. He was awarded the degrees of Master of Arts in Mathematics by Oxford University in 1965, and of Doctor of Philosophy in Mathematical Physics by the University of Adelaide, South Australia in 1968. His primary interest is in extending the applicability of Decision Theory, and he is currently involved in specific projects concerning applications to manpower planning, medicine, scheduling of sewage treatment facilities, and forest fire control.Stanley HeapsH. STANLEY HEAPS has degrees in mathematics from the University of Manchester and the University of Toronto. From 1951-66 he was a member of the faculty of Nova Scotia Technical College where he became Professor of Engineering Mathematics and Department Head. From 1952-67 he was mathematical consultant to the Naval Research Establishment, Dartmouth, N.S., and worked on problems concerned with underwater acoustics and signal processing. In 1966 he joined Dalhousie University as Director of the Computer Centre, and in 1967 he moved to the University of Alberta as Professor in the Department of Computing Science. He was Assistant Chairman of the Department from 1968-71.Professor Heaps is the author of many papers in various branches of applied mathematics, engineering, and information science. His present research interests are in information retrieval and optimization problems. During 1971-72 he is President of the Edmonton Section of CIPS.G.F. DeeckerG.F. DEECKER was born in Toronto, Ontario in 1944. He graduated from the University of Toronto with a BA degree in Mathematics in 1967. In 1970 he obtained an M sc degree in Computing Science from the University of Alberta, where he is currently a PH D student. His main interest is in computer graphics and interactive map storage and retrieval applications.J.P. PennyJ.P. PENNY was born in Adelaide, South Australia, and obtained his PH D degree from the University of Adelaide in 1965. He has worked in Austraha with the Division of Mathematical Statistics and the Division of Computing Research of the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation. Since 1967, he has been an Associate Professor in Computing Science at the University of Alberta. His interests are in computer graphics, programming languages, and operating systems.J.P. PennyJ.P. PENNY was born in Adelaide, South Australia, and obtained his PH D degree from the University of Adelaide in 1965. His interests are in computer graphics, programming languages, and operating systems.Dennis TsichritzisDENNIS TSICHRITZIS received his BS in Electrical Engineering from the National Technical University of Athens (1965). He subsequently attended Princeton University for his MA (1967) and PH D (1968). In 1968 he joined the University of Toronto, where he is currently an associate professor.Flis research interests varied from theoretical areas like Computational Complexity to Operating Systems and Economics of Computers. He is currently involved in the design of an operating system and the development of tools, techniques and methodologies in software engineering.Rein PetersonREIN PETERSON is on the Faculty of Administrative Studies, York University, Toronto, Canada, where he teaches and does research in the Management Science area. He previously was on the faculties of the University of Western Ontario, Columbia University in the City of New York, and the State University of New York. Dr. Peterson obtained his B ENG degree from McGill, his MBA degree from the University of Western Ontario, and his PH D from Cornell University. He was elected into the Phi Kappa Phi honour society as a result of his postgraduate work at Cornell.His current research involves the development of practicable decision rules for controlling inventory fluctuations through the smoothing of shipments. His research is supported by the Canada Council and the Ford Foundation. His previous research has appeared in Management Science, Psychonomic Science, The Business Quarterly, and The Journal of Economic Planning. He is currently writing a book on Inventory Management and Production Planning.Joseph ThomasDR. JOSEPH THOMAS was born in Barnesville, Ohio, USA. He received a BS (Chemical Engineering) from Carnegie- Mellon University in 1964, and a PH D (Operations Research) from Yale University in 1968. Since 1967 he has been on the faculty of the Graduate School of Business and Public Administration, Cornell University.Dr. Thomas has lectured on forecasting, production planning, inventory control, and management use of the computer for several firms and organizations. His previous articles have appeared in Management Science and the Journal of Financial and Quantitative Analysis, and his current research interests are in forecasting techniques and the relation of production decisions to marketing and finance.Alain-Jean LoiseauALAIN-JEAN LOISEAU was born in Moulins (France) and received his Civil Engineering degree from the Saint- Etienne School of Mines. He worked for two years as a member of the Operations Research Group of the Port of New York Authority, under Mr. Leslie C. Edie and received a Master of Business Administration from Columbia University in 1970. He is currently Assistant Professor at the CRC (Centre de Recherches et d'Etudes des Chefs d'Entreprise) at Jouy-en-Josas, France, and head of the Business Data Processing Department at ESSEC in Paris, in charge of the Systems Analysis and the MIS courses. His present research interests include financial and strategic planning under uncertainty, and financial modelling at large.
