ResumoThe purpose of this article is the analysis of one of the tales of The Cosmicomics, by Italo Calvino entitled A Sign in space, in the light of the dialogical discourse theory of Mikhail Bakhtin (1998Bakhtin ( /2003)).The analysis will take into account primarily the dialogical notion proposed by Bakhtin that the existence of the subject only makes sense from its contact with the other by the constant process of dialogue promoted by the use of language. In Calvino's story we are introduced to a character in the process of acquisition of the sign and the linguistic code, which makes it able to accomplish the contact with the other responsive and productive dialogue in the world of language.Such contact, as we shall see, is charged with a modifier power of senses for both participants in the dialogic game.
