Chronicle, 2018 54p ISBN 978-1-4521-3996-8 $17.99 R 5-8 yrs In this picture book following siblings Mabel and Sam, the family has just moved in to a new house, and the sibs deal with the shock of change in three imaginative adventures. In "On the High Seas," Captain Mabel and First Mate Sam set sail in the Handle with Care (an empty moving box) until friendly locals entice them out with pizza; in "At the Museum," Tour Guide Mabel shows Sam all the family artifacts rendered strange in the new home; in "In Space," the pair blasts off in search of Planet Perfecto. Urban evinces her usual ability to touch gently on deeper issues, like the kids' (especially Mabel's) unease about moving, while creating an authentic and charming story of everyday kid doings. The illustrations, block prints with digital collage touches, have a retro palette of mustard, navy, and earthtones with white linework deployed with special creativity; the art deftly bridges between the imagined and the real, everyday world of the olive-skinned children. The creative brother and sister's adventures are engaging, and relocating youngsters in particular will appreciate this sympathetic acknowledgment of their disruption.
