Kann Licht einen Motor antreiben? Flüssigkristalline Elastomere (LCEs) aus Azobenzolderivaten und daraus hergestellte Kompositmaterialien haben das Potenzial, bei Lichteinstrahlung dreidimensionale Bewegungen auszuführen. Mit den LCE-Verbundfilmen wurde ein erster lichtgetriebener Plastikmotor entwickelt, der ohne Batterien, Drähte oder Getriebe Lichtenergie direkt in eine beständige Rotationsbewegung umwandeln kann.
