ResumoSignificance Before travelling to address the Council, Touadera visited Bambari, the second-largest town. For weeks, Bambari has been threatened by rebel elements, but a UN force has assertively protected the strategic town, facing down warlords reluctant to join national peace talks. Bambari is representative of broader insecurity still plaguing the central African nation. Impacts Maintaining UN control of Bambari would inject momentum into the MINUSCA drive to extend the authority of the state. Defence of Bambari could undermine the clout of the FPRC leader and his ambitions to hive off a rebel-controlled zone. Absent renewed open warfare, donor assistance should remain substantial, but its potential to transform the economy is uncertain.
