ResumoMATHEMATICS.—The Grand Prize of the mathe. matieal sciences. No memoir was received dealing with the question proposed, buta prize of 2000 francs was awarded to N. E. Norlund, professor at the University of Lund, for his work on the linear equations in finite differences. The Bordin prize, Georges Darmaois and Bertrand Gambier each an honourable mention (1000 francs); the Poncelet prize to Charles de la Vallee Poussin, for the whole of his contributions to mathematics; the Prancceur prize to (the late) Rene Eugene Gateaux, for his work on the functional calculus.
