Autores ResumoGreetings of what has turned out to be a very surprising New Year at ASR! As many of you now know, we entered the year with the surprise announcement from ASA of a change of venue for this year's annual meeting. This was done without any advance consultation of the allied organizations by ASA and with only one day's notice before the general announcement to the ASA membership. The basis for the change was unresolved contractual negotiations among Chicago union hotel workers and their employers. These workers had not had a contract since the summer of 2009, and ASA feared a strike might loom this summer. This was not a situation that affected us directly, but that was also not a concern in ASA's eyes. We subsequently learned of the meeting venue change, hence that ASR will meet 18-20 August in Las Vegas. (The ASA Sociology of Religion Section Day is 21 August.) Our hotel is the Flamingo. It is directly across the street from Caesar's Palace, the ASA hotel, and directly next door to Harrah's, the SSSP hotel. A registration link for the hotel should be available on the ASR Web site (www.sociologyofreligion.com) by 1 April. Please use this means to make your reservation. If you cannot use the link, please contact the Executive Office (williamswatos@augustana.edu) to ensure that you are included in our block and get our rates. A revised program call, with the right city and dates, appears in this issue of Sociology of Religion. I can also tell you that we have excellent rates at the Flamingo: $49 for run-of-house rooms and $85 for GO rooms. These rates are single or double. The two classes of rooms are basically the same size. GO rooms have updated technology and brighter décor. They are also closer to the elevators in what is a very large property. You will probably never see lower rates for an ASR meeting than in Las Vegas this year.
