ResumoOceanographical observations were made along the Colombian coast,in the Caribbean Sea, aboard the R /V ARC San Andres of the Colombian Navy, in September 1972, as pan t of the national contribution to CICAR program. This paper analiza the surface sea water physical properties distribution off the Colombian Guajira Peninsula between meridians 7/0 -750jv and the vertical section crossing the upwelling main area during summer time.Anomalies in the surface distribution of temperature, salinity and density near La Guajira coast, in the vicinity of 72cW were observad; waters with low temperatures (r= .25.E.c associated with high salinities (S>3E 5r/ z3 )were recorded in Mis reglan.lt has been possible to determine that these anomalies are due to upward motiones, the intensity of which was calculated by means of a mathematical Model, to be about 11 4 m/ - mon th.
